CLOSURE OF POOL 2  (February 17, 2023 Community Announcement)
Due to unprecedented high natural gas prices, the Board has decided to shut the heaters off on pool and spa 2 for 60 days.  After that time the rates will be reevaluated.  The other pools will remain heated for your use.  Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience.

GOING GOLD AT SUNRISE OASIS
To help conserve water, as the drought in the West continues, the Sunrise Oasis Board of Directors voted to skip both the traditional scalp (low mow) and overseed this year which typically occurs in October.  The Board felt that in light of the drought in California, rules that restrict daytime grass watering, and possible fines for violating the rules, it made sense to “go gold”.  Longtime residents will recall that this is not the first time our community skipped overseeding due to water restrictions.

Going gold is simply the seasonal change in the appearance of the Bermuda grass as it goes dormant and turns a golden color in the fall and winter.  Typically a rye grass seed mix is planted in the fall to green up the turf for the winter and spring.  It dies away naturally as warm weather returns, and the Bermuda grass greens up again.  Unfortunately, it takes frequent watering for several weeks for the rye seed mix to germinate, and depending on mother nature, it may require aggressive irrigation if rain is scarce in the winter and spring.

Skipping overseeding will also help our HOA budget by saving hundreds of dollars on landscaping supplies and water costs.  (It should be noted that overseeding supply costs are included in the 2023 operating budget.  Fingers crossed that watering restrictions will have ended!)

Our landscape provider, Creative Landscape Design, has presented a plan to keep the grass looking as nice as possible as the Bermuda goes dormant which includes: continued nighttime watering, a reduced mow schedule and adjustments to the mowing height.
